Indigenous School at San Roque - Teaching Volunteering in Quito

About the Institution

The school is located in the San Roque neighborhood in the south of Quito. There is a school for children and also a Day Care Center administered by different directors.

The school is called CEDEIB, which is tranlated as the Experimental Center of Intercultural Bilingual Education. Both the school and day care center have been created with the help of indigenous associations and the government.

Many indigenous folk come to the capital of Quito to try to find work and it is important to offer bilingual education to the children while their families are either working or looking for work. Most children speak the indigenous language of Quichua in addition to Spanish.

Description of the Work

At the CEDEIB you can help by teaching English to the children, especially in 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades.
