About the Center
The center is located in the San Roque neighbourhood in the south of Quito. There is a school for children as well as a day care center, administered by different directors.
Both centers have been created with the help of some indigenous associations and the government. Many indigenous people come to the capital to try to find work, and their children usually do not have an appropriate place to stay.
The school and the day care center are places where children can eat, play, learn and interact with others while their parents are working. Most children speak the native indigenous language, quichua, in addition to Spanish.
Description of the Work
At the School you can help by teaching English to the children, especially for grades 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.
At the day care center you can help by creating recreational activities for the children, playing with them, organizing games, constructing didactic material, distrubuting the food in the morning, and much more.
Keep In Mind
This is a type of volunteer work where you are going to work with children and youth who are very vulnerable and who make strong bonds, becoming closely attached with those close to them. They will miss you and feel sad if you do not show up and it is very important that you tell the children with anticipation when you will be leaving, mostly because of the strong bonds they make and the history they have.
What You Will Receive
- An initial meeting where you will receive all the information you need before starting the program.
- Frequent follow up meetings.
- A certificate at the end of your volunteer period.
Time: Minimum 1 Week
Regular time schedule: The centers are open from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. You are free to arrange your own schedule. At the CEDEIB work is only available from Monday to Thursday.
