Teaching Volunteering (1 program)
Teaching Program in the Amazon
About the institution
It is a project that helps jungle schools by providing teachers, books and school equipment. The project main focus is on English teaching but they are able to cover other areas like music, science, geography and sports. The project supports other programs for the community like a summer school.
The project works with 6 of the 8 schools between the provincial town of Puyo and Km40 of the Arajuno Road. In Ecuador the schools terms are from January to the end of June and from September until de middle of December. This is a unique opportunity for interacting with the local community while helping them. Volunteers receive support from the coordinator and the head volunteers and live in a great communal environment.
Description of the work
This project is well organized because their main goal is to have continuity for the volunteers and the community. The volunteers’ main role is to teach different versions of the same lesson to the 3 classes at the school from 8.30am – 12pm. In the afternoon the volunteers will plan the following day activities, and help out with community projects and the continued development of the Project. On Wednesdays volunteers have the opportunity to plan the coming weeks including games and other educative activities. Volunteers have free time on Saturday and Sunday.
